At Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Strategy Analytics
expects to see a wide range of innovative solutions for mobile broadband
traffic management on 3G and 4G networks designed to address the
anticipated growth in tablets and mobile video usage. The
Strategy Analytics Mobile
Broadband Opportunity (MBO) service report, “An Exciting
2011: Top Mobile Broadband Trends Leading into Mobile World Congress,”
identifies traffic management, mobile data pricing and policy control as
top issues in 2011.
Mobile broadband pricing plan evolution and the potential for pricing
plans that share a bucket of data across multiple devices are key
strategic factors for mobile operators and tablet vendors, as a range of
new players aim to grab market share from the Apple iPad.
“When operators require a new plan for each new device to connect to 3G
or 4G, it limits the potential market. We are at the early stages of a
ramp of multiple device owners. A recent Strategy Analytics survey in
the US shows over 60% of smartphone owners would like to see a single
mobile data plan that connects all of their devices,” notes Susan Welsh
de Grimaldo, Director of the Strategy Analytics Mobile
Broadband Opportunities service.
“The interest in a shared data plan for multiple devices presents a real
opportunity for mobile operators to drive connected devices and data
revenues,” adds Phil Kendall, Director of the Strategy Analytics
Wireless Operator Strategies (WOS) service. Additional analysis of
consumer feedback on drivers for adoption of 4G, LTE and pricing plan
preferences is highlighted in the Strategy Analytics report, “Speed
Matters: US Consumer Interest in 4G and New Mobile Broadband Pricing
Models.”
Ms. Welsh de Grimaldo will be participating in a panel on mobile
broadband pricing trends at an executive luncheon organized by Fierce
Wireless alongside MWC on Wednesday, February 16. This is an
invitation-only event. For questions, please contact kcahill@fiercemarkets.com.
Mr. Kendall will be a featured speaker at the invitation-only Strategy
Analytics breakfast event on February 16, where he will be
discussing mobile data traffic management and profitability solutions.
