Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Introduces Industry’s First MPO Connector for Fusion Splice-On Connectivity, New ST Connector, and Other Lynx2 ProductsThe Lynx2 CustomFit Splice-on Connector product line has expanded with the introduction of the industry’s first MPO field installable, fusion splice-on connector, meeting the demand by customers for faster deployment and costsavings for customized field terminations in data center, FTTx, enterprise network, MDU, government and military, and other network applications. Also new to the Lynx2 product line are an ST connector, Duplex Clips for SC and LC connectors, and Lynx2 mini splice-on connector..

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave (www.sumitomoelectric.com), a leader in fiber optic product manufacturing, announced today the expansion of its Lynx2 CustomFit Splice-On Connector product line to include the Lynx2-MPO and Lynx2-ST to its suite of field installable connector products. The addition of the MPO and ST to its current suite of SC, LC, and FC connectors makes Sumitomo’s fusion splice-on product line the largest and most comprehensive on the market.

The market demand for a multi-fiber MPO fusion splice-on connector prompted Sumitomo Electric Lightwave to introduce the Lynx2-MPO in either 12-fiber ribbon or ribbon cord options that meets the need for fast and easy on-site customized terminations in data centers, enterprise network, MDU, and any high-density network application. As a small form factor connector, the MPO connector also reduces the space required in racks and panels. The introduction of the Lynx2-ST and SC and LC Duplex Clips completes the full breadth of popular connector types in Sumitomo’s connector portfolio.

All Lynx2 connectors offer the customer the full media types required for single-mode and 62.5µm, 50 µm, and 50 µm laser optimized gigabit multi-mode fiber types in APC, UPC, and PC (MMF) polishing options. Lynx2 CustomFit® Splice-On Connector provides the speed, excellent insertion and return loss performance, and flexibility for reliable, permanent on-site customized terminations. The speed of terminations lower labor costs, while facilitating faster network repair and restoration.

Kin to the Lynx2 CustomFit Splice-On Connector is Sumitomo’s new Lynx2 mini™, which is the shortest splice-on connector available. Identical to the length of a factory terminated SC, LC, and FC connector, the Lynx2 mini is ideal and economical for production and factory terminations.

“Our commitment to continuous innovation and listening to customer needs has led to yet another Sumitomo industry-first product launch with the introduction of the Lynx2-MPO. Sumitomo is pleased to offer the widest selection of splice-on connector types to ensure that our customers achieve faster deployments, increased productivity, and reduced costs for their network connectivity,” comments Joshua Seawell, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave’s product manager for Lightwave Network Products.

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave will be unveiling its new product introductions at the 2011 BICSI Winter Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida on January 16 – 20, booth # 924.
