Hdtune Pro
The performance of the Fujitsu hard drive (MHZ2160BH G1, 160 GB) is measured with the HDTune software. The average temperature measured ranged between 36 and 40°C. When reading, the average speed is 46.9 MB/sec with the maximum point of 60.2 MB/sec, which constitutes a good result for a laptop! The average access time of the hard drive is 17.4 ms, a score that is a lot less brilliant.
Gigabit Ethernet and draft-n Wifi
The performance of the Gigabit Ethernet (Intel 82567 LM) is up to standard. Sending a 732MB DivX from another PC on our Ethernet network that is 10/100/1000 compatible took 33 seconds at 25 Mbit/s on average. When receiving, the reception of the same data rose to 45.9 Mbit/s and took about 15 seconds!
So as to evaluate the chip in the WiFi n (Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5300), we installed the Linksys WRT610N router, dual band wireless (2.4 and 5 GHz). The speed when connecting PC to PC via a Synology storage server (also in Gigabit) varied between the theoretic 270 and 300 Mbit/s as seen in our screen captures. We reached a speed between 35 and 40 Mbit/s. This represents speeds that start to become interesting when transferring HD videos for example. As well as this, the draft-n signal quality generally showed itself to be stable, even when we were more then 10 meters away in the house.
