The general module
It is in the advanced mode that you really start to get into the heart of BitDefender Internet Security 2009. The general panel opens the way, and you will see this as an extension of the summery board that you saw in the standard mode, except there is a lot more explicit information. In the State tab, you can see detailed reports of the scanned files, those that have been disinfected, detected viruses, past analysis dates and those that are to come… you can also visualize the activity graph for files and the network.
Under settings, the administrator decides if he wants to activate password protection for BIDS 2009, to launch BIDS at the start up of Windows, and whether he wants to display notes on the screen in standard or advanced mode.
Finally, on the SysInfo tab, all of the objects that are loaded into memory are displayed. With a bit of knowledge and some wits, you can identify if an unknown object is being run in your memory. SysInfo details the tasks which launch at the start of a session, the known active DLL files, the applications and services that are running (DHCP client, Windows audio, system restoration), and the processes in memory. Everything is “refreshed” in real time, and if this isn’t the case then you have the Update button which will perform the action.
The vulnerability module
This is more or less the equivalent of the Security module in standard mode. In one click, the administrator can control the systems vulnerability (critical Windows updates, Web browser, passwords for a session that is too weak…).
The Encryption module
In the safe you can activate or disable this program. A report will give you a global view of the existing safes and their status (open or locked, drive letter, location).
On the instant messaging tab, only two applications are impacted by the encryption of conversations. These are Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger (and MSN). By default, all discussions will be encrypted. For the exceptions to the encryption, you simply need to add the ID or users concerned (the “+” button).
