Last year, Spielberg surprised us, firstly by showing his presence in the video game field, and secondly by the quality of the release. Released almost unnoticed, the concept got some bad press as a Wii game: destroying blocks is a bit of a “casual” thing. But it has to be said that once you got into the game then Boom Box managed to surprise. Instead of having a dull party game, we instead found ourselves in front of a game that looked like nothing, but which managed to captivate. That’s because Boom Box isn’t a party game, and Smash Party isn’t either. Both come from the thinking game family, where your dexterity is a key element to all actions. In the same way that we didn’t expect Kororinpa and his bubble story, Boom Blox and the blocks that you need to destroy easily seduces.

It is with great pleasure that we now welcome its little brother, Boom Box Smash Party, with Spielberg still at the controls. The formula is pretty much the same; you still have to break the structures with different projectiles: ball, bowling ball, coloured ball, bomb, etc… But not in any way either, which is where the challenge comes from. Each time you will have to be more and more careful as you advance, remaining conscientious of the whole game so as to try and build a strategy to end up with the best score: which post to attack so that the most other blocks fall, which block to take out to get as many jewels as possible… Destroy just to destroy doesn’t work, as you will need to develop techniques from the first level so you don’t get lost. Next, you will have to build the construction, which isn’t always easy, especially when the blocks don’t fall as you would like.
