The Fujifilm FinePix Z200fd ultra-compact digital camera comes in an elegant metal box that is 20mm thick with its range of colours including black, pink, red, silver and two tone red and black. It has a 10 MPixel CCP lens, a 5x optical zoom (33-165 mm) and a 2.7" LCD screen (230000 pixels). We should state that the glass on this has been reinforced and is particularly resistant to scratches. Don’t go looking for the off button, as there isn’t one. You have to close the diagonal case in front of the lens. Once powered up, the letter "Z" in "FinePix Z" will light up.
The pictures can be taken at a resolution of 3648 × 2736 (10M), 3648 × 2432 (format 3:2), 2592 × 1944, 2048 × 1536, 1600 × 1200, and 640 × 480 pixels. The pictures taken both inside and outside were successful! Multiple scene configurations are possible with the auto mode, landscape, portrait, text, flower, evening, museum, diving, beach, sun set, fireworks, night, sport, auction mode (like eBay), natural light (without flash), natural with flash. A short description is provided which is rather practical for beginners so that they know the benefits of each of the modes. The circular knob for selecting the options allows you to easily change from one to the others.
The Z200fd integrates the face detection function. The faces f your subjects are highlighted in a portrait, a couples photos, or even with up to ten people for a group photos. It is also impossible to fail when taking a picture if you have shaky hands as here you have a double picture stabiliser option (Dual IS technology).
Voices can be recorded in WAVE and video recording is also possible. The video quality is unfortunately not HD, as you only have the VGA and QVGA resolutions running at 30 images per second. When you change to play mode, it is possible to touch up your photos from the mosaic display mode (100 thumbnails), to resize them for a Blog and view them in a slideshow (sliding effects, melting, etc). Fujifilm is also rather generous as they have provided an internal 52 MB memory card which allows for 21 photos in 10MP. This means you will still have to purchase a memory card, xD-Picture Card or SD/SDHC.
