Look at the burning device!
Our two models are different. The Samsung easily qualifies as a DVD Super Multi recorder as it accepts DVD-+R, DVD-+RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-Video, DivX / MPEG4… with it even being multi layer compatible with DVD-*+ Dual Layer disks, meaning you can store 8.5 GB on a disk, the equivalent of 12 DivX files on a single disk! When using it, all +- and RW+- disks inserted worked perfectly.
At Panasonic all formats are supported… on paper. But in reality this doesn’t appear to be the case! Our DVD-R test, in DVD-Video format didn’t work, unlike with the Samsung. We came to believe that our “home brand” disk was surely behind our problems… Trying the process again with our Philips DVD-RW and Verbatim DVD+RW, lead to the same results with the disk being unreadable. We will leave you draw your own conclusions.

To blur the discussion even more about the supported media on the two players, we will now look at the DVD Video Recording, also known as DVD VR. This is a DVD recording mode that allows you to edit the data directly on the player (add scenes or chapters, cut ads, delete) without having to export the video to your computer. This is a practical function if you want to import scenes from your handicam, as you simply need to connect it to the front of the player.
