Test and comparision: Seven high capacity memory sticks

PC’s and MACs are today delivered without floppy disk drives. This isn’t really a problem, as a small memory stick that weighs a few grams will do the trick! On this Christmas Eve, we have tested seven high storage memory sticks. These aren’t models with 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 GB, but a lot more, ranging from 32 to 64GB, which are just starting to be released by manufacturers.

Test and comparision: Seven high capacity memory sticks

JetFlash V20_64GB_straightThe JetFlash V20 is without a doubt the largest key we are looking at in this comparison… with it being a real 64 GB memory stick! It is delivered and formatted in FAT32, and you will have 61 279 MB available. The memory stick is recognized by the Free box internet triple play box in France, allowing you to record TV programs onto it, and play DivX files from it. You can also use it as a Diskstation DS207 server for backups or sending the file just by pressing a button. This memory stick is white and transparent green. The red light indicates when there is activity on the device, while the cap can be attached to the back of the device so that you don’t lose it, although this wasn’t designed especially for this.

The performance of the key is well below that seen with 32GB versions. Here you don’t even have 30 MB/s on average, but instead 25.6 MB/s. This is still rather honest though! The device can pose some problems due to its size though, as it may not be possible to connect it a vertical USB 2.0 port like that which is present on some notebooks and netbooks. Due to JetFlash V20_64GBthis, Transcend has provided a white USB cable which can be used if you need.

On the memory stick, there is a very flat cord which is nice to touch and which can be clipped on and off, a bit like that which you can do with mobile phones, although this is thinner. With the small booklet that is provided, a mini-CD that is 8cm is also provided. This contains the same utilities that you can find on the online Download Center which includes the Windows 98 drivers, JFFormat for quick or complete formatting, Recovery Tool for the recovery of lost data and the excellent JetFlash Elite v2.0 utilities suite (emails, favorites, email, person settings, file encryption…).
Everything comes with a 5 year warranty.
