The taking of a system image in real time, the selective or full back up of the system to a local drive of FTP server, the cloning of a hard drive or partitions and the conversion of a backup image to VMWare format are a few of the new features seen. Let’s take a look at this very complete all in one solution.

DriveClone 6 Pro: Clone and backup your data

Installing the system image
Like the tool present in Windows XP, Vista or Seven you can create restore points manually or automatically so that you can restore then if you need. DriveClone 6 Pro also offers this utility which allows you to restore back to a specific date, at a specific hour when the system was “safe”. Here though, the taking of the system image is more advanced (image every 15 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours, each time the system starts …). This function is very practical when a virus, malware or malicious program upsets your system. You have to go to the main console, start and select "Install the system image" so that DriveClone Pro creates a secure zone. After rebooting the OS this function will be available.

Preview a backup image and more...

You may not want to restore a full partition or hard drive image, which is where the previewing of a backup files comes in. You simply need to open the *.SCO file. You can then verify the content of the image file and select the files and folders you want to restore.

Verifying the image’s integrity

This is a fundamental step which has to be done, is possible, after a backup has been performed. Is there anything worse then a corrupt backup? In Tools, opt for the module titles “Verify the integrity of an image” and simply indicate the location of the backup. You will then have to wait for the operation to finish.

Converting a backup for virtualisation (VMWare)
This is THE innovative function in DriveClone 6 Pro. Zhen you need an operating system, it’s not necessary to install it permanently on your machine with a multi-boot. You can simply install this OS and create a full backup. Next, go to Tools, Convert a backup file to VMWare format (*.VMDK) to take advantage of virtualization. You will need to download the VMWare development kit (Virtual Disk Development Kit 1.1 for Windows 32 bit) to be able to use the backup in virtual mode, and acquire a license for VMWare Workstation, for example.

Logs

The history logs are available in the main console under the logs tab. These will detail all of the activities under taken by DriveClone Pro. The file backups and drives, restore of drives and files, scheduled tasks, creation of system images and copy offsite (FTP). Double clicking on an event will provide you with a detailed description.
