The DriveClone 5 Pro program, previously known as Restore IT 8 Pro, is a backup and restoration tool which creates system images or customized backups of your data. This program can also be used to clone disks for the migration from one hard drive to another. It works under Windows 2000, XP and Vista and supports the FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, Linux EXT 2/3 and Reiser file systems. Drive Clone 5 Pro also accepts IDE, EIDE, SATA and SCSI disks as well as being compatible with the RAID 0/1 systems.
The strong point of DriveClone 5 Pro is without a doubt its simplicity. It isn’t necessary to have any particular idea about backups to be able to use this program, with it being possible to create full, incremental or scheduled backups.
The application has been particularly well conceived as more then just working under Windows, it can also be loaded before the system start up making the first layer accessible. This means that in the event Windows fails, you can still access your data and repair your operating system by loading a previous backup thanks to the Pre-OS mode.
The installation allows for the creation of a security zone. At a minimum, this will be 1 GB. On our 640 GB hard drive (2 x 320 GB in RAID 0), 61 GB were allocated. In any event, the program will offer a partition size proportional to your total disk space. This partition will be hidden and contains the drive images, but you can at any moment activate and access the achieved data, as we will see.
In this article we will principally be looking at the three key functions available in Drive Clone 5 Pro, which is the backup, restoration and cloning of your disk, and to go a little further we will look at additional configuration settings.
