A few clicks to react!
The standard mode only proposes one option: the disabling of the firewall. You therefore have to change over to the advanced mode if you want to fully take advantage of this module. With one click, the administrator can block all network traffic and pass from the automatic filtering mode to interactive. But rest assured, these aren’t the only modes available. All rules that are created are visible and can be changed via the Zone rules configuration.

Visible or hidden on the network? It’s up to you to decide!
Like a lot of modern firewalls, Eset Smart Security 4 allows you to change your computers protection on the network. With strict protection, it will be invisible to other machines, including for shared folders and printers. This is ideal for wireless connections, while authorizing sharing you will be seen. This is the most adapted mode for home use, a wired network or in the office.

Five filtering modes
These are the “entrails” of the firewall. You get access to them with the F5 key or by clicking on the advanced configuration options in the personal firewall. In total there are five filtering modes available. The automatic mode, interactive mode, and the mode based on custom rules. The two new additions are the learning mode and the automatic mode with exceptions (rules defined by the user). You will also find rules and zones here provided by the editor.

Reliable zone and intrusion detection
The IDS and advanced options are extremely important, allowing you to refine the firewalls rules. You can allow or block all actions in the reliable zone. File sharing and printer sharing, UPnP (practical for a router or UPnP box), and allow remote administration. The intrusion detection is adjustable (attack with poisoning, SMB relay, or attack with the ICMP protocol). The other remarkable function concerns the integration of the firewall with the system (Windows). As the administrator you can activate all of the functions, disable them temporarily, only analyze the application protocols or even disable it completely so that another can take over.
