GeeXbox turn your PC into a multimedia platform

The GeeXboX is a complete operating system based on GNU/Linux, which will transform your PC into an autonomous multimedia centre. You can also run this program from a CD, DVD, USB key, Memory Card or multi boot hard drive to be able to access a very complete multimedia reader allowing you to watch you video files (DivX, DVD) or listen to your audio. Simple, practical and powerful, what more do you want from a player.

GeeXbox turn your PC into a multimedia platform

The GeeXboX can be controlled by a TV remote control if is connected to an LIRC compatible infra-red port.

As a note, the only control that is officially supported is the Remote Wonder that is made by the Canadian company, ATI. This model is resold under quite a lot of other names.

Note: The GeeXboX has been compiled to support the ATI Remote Wonder control. This means that if you want to use another controller, you will have to remake your own version of the GeeXboX software by using the ISO generator that I previously mentioned.

To add a non supported remote, you will need to rebuild the source files and change the ./packages/lirc/lircd.conf file. You can read the LIRC site for more information about how to modify this file.

For those of you using a supported remote, the picture displayed will help you work out which buttons perform which actions on the GeeXboX (source: official GeeXboX site):
