GeeXbox turn your PC into a multimedia platform

The GeeXboX is a complete operating system based on GNU/Linux, which will transform your PC into an autonomous multimedia centre. You can also run this program from a CD, DVD, USB key, Memory Card or multi boot hard drive to be able to access a very complete multimedia reader allowing you to watch you video files (DivX, DVD) or listen to your audio. Simple, practical and powerful, what more do you want from a player.

It is also possible to directly access the internet from your GeeXboX station.

To do this, you will just need an available internet connection as well as a gateway or router.

You will need to modify the GeeXbox configuration file and provide it with the IP address of your internet gateway.

The file that you need to change is /etc/network by adding the IP address between the quotation marks:

GATEWAY="" # Gateway IP

Note: If you have a DHCP server (automatically assigned IP address), leave the settings between the quotes empty and the connection should be automatically completed.

That should be everything you need to do!

Now you just need to create a play list that contains the addresses of your audio and video internet streams so that they can automatically be watched from you’re GeeXboX.
