GI Joe The Rise of Cobra

GI Joe, the greatest hero of them all, is back on the big screen. And like all big movie productions, the film is accompanied by a video game release. Here you won’t be reworking the same story from the film, as you instead make your way through a completely new story. The video game is before all else an opportunity for fans to once again discover, and take on the role of the characters met over many long years, rather then guaranteeing an excellent up to date video game.

GI Joe The Rise of Cobra

GI Joe Le Réveil du cobraPlaying our hero’s from GI Joe or confronting them isn’t enough to assure success of a video game. The video game suffers from too many faults, with the controls being the first problem witnessed in the game. If it was simply due to an empty scenario that is without interest, with the adventure being pleasant enough, the game may have still been able to come through. But it is the structure of the game that is at fault here. The controls, no matter the situation, pose problems. We suffer from poor visibility, limited sight and poor vehicle controls. To top it all off, the characters and the enemy just wont stop talking, talking and talking…

Simply, GI Joe has no positive points which could help us overcome our frustration. You should therefore leave the hero’s as good memories and avoid this adventure all together.

  • Graphics
Far from being the best looking on the console, GI Joe doesn’t really stand out by its graphics. It is better not to try and look too closely at the details or scenes. The missions on the different maps all look the same, with the games elements being used excessively. You will therefore have to be happy turning your attention to the enemy without paying attention to the surroundings.

  • Music/sound
We would love to be able to cut the Cobra soldiers, who seem to have the same five phrases which are repeated over and over. Then there are the members of your team which have the tendency of interrupting the action with their long discussions. GI Joe is a rather talkative game with the music being insignificant which means that you can’t really appreciate the soundtrack.

  • Gameplay
Have the developers forgotten to integrate the camera movements? The movements are rather complicated, leaving you shooting blind at the enemy and it is impossible for you to look around you. Then there are the vehicles, where the controls show you how catastrophic things can really get. They are simply unmanageable, both in terms of driving and the controlling of the weapons to such a point that we preferred staying on our feet as often as possible… The rest of the controls are rather easy to pick up, besides the aiming system…

  • Lifetime
This is the only positive point of the game. You will spend a fair bit of time moving through the different maps on offer in the game. The only problem is that you spend your time running with your right index finger continually holding the fire button. We do have a good life span, but looking at the games interest, you quickly put it down anyway.

  • Storyline
The GI Joe’s are a solid unit and it can be seen since nearly all of the missions require you saving the rest of the squad. We can feel that the game has a scenario, but we get so lost in it along the way that in the end the only thing that matters is shooting anything that moves. With all of the talking though, the muddled scenario isn’t from a lack of elements, but rather the tendency of skipping over them after a few hours of playing…

  • Overall Score
GI Joe brings back one of our heroes from a long time ago, but out enthusiasm for the game is far from being up to standard. With an empty scenario and a mediocre technical production, the game provides no enjoyment. Worse is that it annoys you and is boring. Apart from spraying bullets in all directions, this game offers nothing else. Simply, this is a video game adaptation which has been quickly thrown together.
