MX vs ATV Extreme Limit

After its depart on the Playstation 2 with MX vs ATV Unleashed in 2005, now THQ the maker has tried to move to a next gen platform, but not forgetting PSP, DS, PS2 and Wii versions. Will it manage to keep its intrinsic qualities with improved graphics and looks in this form? Let’s hit the road to answer the question…

MX vs ATV Extreme Limit

  1. 1 - A lot of tracks, vehicles and modes
  2. 2 - An fun but uneven arcade style
  3. 3 - Old graphics
  4. 4 - Conclusion

The MX vs ATV series is recent: it dates from 2005 with Unleashed on the Playstation 2. Identified by its diversity and richness (numerous vehicles available, the number of tracks and challenges, etc…), its arrival on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as normal supports (PS2, PSP, WII, DS), has therefore been long awaited. Once the game has started, disappointment isn’t on the cards: even if the game is far from the current graphical standards, it hasn’t lost any of the intrinsic qualities of its older brother.

Simply: Extreme Limit is a little bit like the opposite of Motorstorm in terms of content. The number of tracks available, range of vehicles (bikes as well as quads, pick-ups, buggy;s, monster trucks, etc), an online mode that is present so that you can challenge over the internet and especially a tournament mode (X-Cross) which provides challenges that continue for hours on end. The game from Rainbow Studios and THQ, the maker, is certainly not disappointing from this point of view.

Its arcade style, with a touch of simulation (especially during the jumps where you have to meticulously calculate the trajectory so that you don’t have any accidents), is accompanied by progressive difficulty (it is also possible to configure the artificial intelligence of your opponents) which offers the game a very honorable life span as well as a consequential number of other modes: mini-games, multiplayer (which hosts up to 12 players) or simply the cup mode where your desire to win the races will surely rise to the top. Finally, as if this wasn’t enough, it is also possible to customize your vehicle as each race that you win in X-Cross tournament will earn you money. It is disappointing though that you don’t have more technical choices, as it is always a pleasure to have such options.
