Netgear XAVB101 PLC 200 Mbps Homeplug AV kit

So that you can fully appreciate the real speeds that are available with the netgear XAVB101 HomePlug AV PLC kit, we have performed some video copies of DivX files and a DVD-Video that we extracted the content from, and finally a HD film. Here are the results in descending order of speed:

The average transfer speeds varied between 6.6 and 7.1 MB/s which isn’t exceptional, but the results are a lot better then seen with the Netgear HDX101 (4.7 MB/s), which was also 200 Mb/s. As a comparison, Gigabit connections have a speed of between 27.9 and 28.5 MB/s. This means t hat copying the same HD film that is 8.4 GB would take 5m 02s compared to 20m 43s hen connected at 200 Mbps! With the PLC 200 Mbps adaptors, it is still four ties slower then Ethernet Gigabit (1000 Mbps). But this is just to give you an idea of what other systems run at! The speeds reached are more then sufficient if you want to watch HD streams.
