Data management
We hot installed a second hard drive, a 320GB Hitachi. While this was smaller then the already installed 500 GB drive, the RND 2150 automatically creates an extendable RAID of 2 x 300 GB. It is impossible for the moment to create a RAID 0 or JBOD. Of course, so that you don’t lose any space and still take advantage of X-RAID, it is ideal to install a drive of equal size to the original 500 GB. All information relative to the unit is visible on the Volumes tab, Volumes Management. By clicking on the USB Devices tab you will also have access to the settings of large USB storage devices. By default, when you connect a USB drive all of the data is automatically exported to the “media\Pictures” folder. All of this is indicative and can be customized to your own functions and tastes!

Group management
Click on Security and Account Management to create a group and list of users that will have access to the NAS. The first user group by default is “users”, and you can leave it named this or rename it to something that better suits your needs. We will rename it to “utilisateurs” and press Apply so that the changes take effect.
User management
At this time, you need to create different accounts that will have access to the server’s data and “Utilisateurs” group that we created. We create our account and indicate a password. You will have to do the same operation for all family members that require access to the server. In the “Quota” section, indicate “0”which means there is no limit for the user. By stating the contacts email address, they will automatically receive an email with their password in it! This is a rather practical trick…
In the accounts management, it is possible to import and export the contacts list in a *.CSV format. This means that you don’t have to continually perform the same annoying tasks if you network has a large number of members. By going to Preferences, you can define the group that has access to all members; activate the personal folder sharing, giving access to FTP if required, and changing passwords.
