Norton 360 test: The Symantec Security suite

With excessive memory use, an interface that is not very intuitive, and a poor uninstall system, the least we can say about Norton’s PC protection general public products is that they are far from being exceptional, irreplaceable or even pleasant to use. After such remarks, Symantec offers Norton 360, a new all-in-one solution that is intuitive, powerful and with automatic functions that allow you to optimise the data protection. Is it a success? This is what we will discover in this article.

Norton 360 is addressed at beginners and other novices. Even if the security aspect is getting a lot more attention these days, users still need to provide a lot more attention to its operation. To do this you will need to know the different threats that are in existence, choose the tools that appropriate and then configure your PC and network. All of this of course needs to be done on each PC, which is what novices find most discouraging.

Like a lot of protection programs, the installation procedure is accompanied by an initial analysis.

To avoid these hassles, and after a remarkably long installation under Windows Vista (more then five minutes), Norton 360 offers an intuitive interface that regroups four modules that relate to the computers security, transactions, backup and restoration and finally the optimisation of the computer.

Norton 360 interface

The Norton 360 interface is clear, simple and intuitive.

Each module displays a colour notification associated to a message (with the possibility of discovering all the details), which will instantly inform you of its state and the eventual procedure you may need to follow.

Situated towards the top of the interface, a tool bar provides you with quick access to analysis, settings and tasks, and help with technical support in the event of a major problem. Just below this, a message will inform you about what steps you need to take in the event of a problem.
