Stable like Windows XP and as good looking as Windows Vista, we can finally look at Windows 7, the new operating system from Microsoft! We have written a double article presenting the main new features and benefits of this powerful OS which is adapted to netbooks, laptops as well as office and home workstations. In this first part, we will be looking particularly at the graphical interface, the tools and the accessories, while the second part ill look at Windows Media Player 12, the Internet Browser, security tools and network connections.
The font’s library
At times it can be very difficult to select the font you want to use when there are so many fonts installed by the different applications that you use. The Fonts option will provide you with a view of what each looks like and their characteristics. When numerous fonts from the same family are available, numerous tabs will appear which is the case, for example, of Arial Bold and Arial Filled…. By clicking on search for a character, you can input the one you are looking for in the Characters Table, copy and paste it or share it on a web page for example. The Private Characters Editor also allows you to create your own characters.
Synchronisation Center
This utility allows you to synchronise the files between your computer and folders on other machines like PDA’s, Memory Stick’s or a NAS server. You simply have to select the network folder of your choice with the right click button and select the Always Available Offline option. All of the objects will be stored locally on your machine. When changes are made on either of the devices, then an automatic synchronisation will assure all versions are updated transparently.
Ergonomic options
This is a series of tools which have been provided to make the end user of Windows Seven’s lie easier. Among others you can count the looking glass for those t hat have difficulty seeing, the Narration which reads out what is highlighted on the screen, the visual Keyboard which allows you to input text with the help of a virtual (ideal for Tablet PC’s) and the configuration of higher screen contrast. The number of different settings available is rather impressive, with all input and output peripherals being represented (keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, microphone…).
Automatic execution when media is inserted
When you insert media like a Video DVD, a blank CD, a memory card, memory stick or even connect your digital camera to the computer, what should Windows 7 do? This is for you to decide by configuring the automatic execution options of your OS. There are numerous actions available ranging from emptying the memory card to a specific folder, to launching the burning software when a blank disk is inserted to even automatically running programs and games …
Post it Notes: Coloured reminders
You no longer have to stick coloured "Post-it" notes all over your screen, as this option is now provided for you! The Post It utility is here to help you save paper and remind you of what you need to do. How does this work? Enter the word "reminder" and launch the utility. Put the details on your note and with the right mouse button you can select the colour that you want between blue, green, yellow, pink, white and violet.
