How to install the Termaltake MaxOrb cooling system

During CeBIT Thermaltake enveiled their new processor cooling system, code named the MaxOrb. Compatible with socket 754, 939, AM2 and LGA 775 formats; here we have exclusively tested the MaxOrb and provided recommendations as to how you can install your own cooling system.

The MaxOrb has six cooling ducts present which are 6mm in diameter and are linked to the copper base. These six ducts have the peculiarity of being completely covered by the radiator from the exterior to the interior. This in reality only provides you with three ducts covering the heat exchange surface with the goal being to optimise the transfer of heat. Unlike the copper base, the radiator is made up of a multitude of aluminium gills.

The six ducts have the particularity of covering the radiators circumference, working from the outside to the inside.


While it may seem imposing, the dimensions of the MaxOrb are still quite correct: 143 x 144 x 95.2 mm for a total weight of “only” 465 grams (compared to 640 grams for the V1, this is quite a good thing). The MaxOrb also integrates a 120mm silent fan with the constructor announcing a sound range of between 16 and 24 dBA for its fan. This offers a rotation speed of between 1300 and 2000 rpm, with a maximum air volume of 86.5 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute).

Another particularity, the MaxOrb has a small switch on the side allowing you to control the rotation speed of the 120mm fan and therefore airflow.
The downside is that its location is not overly practical.
