This is the first time we have seen this release of Valkyrie Profile on the DS, Covenant of the Plume. The game revolves around this plume which has been given the queen of Niflheim. Wilfred is convinced that with this object he will be able to avenge those that took the life of his father. A lot if based on the game play, which I will explain to you later. Only Wilfred will have the possibility of using it, and this time in combat. It will be able to free the hidden potential of his team mates (not including guests), which will allow you to take down your enemies. On the flip side of the coin, after the battle is finished, the ally which you saw multiply in front of your eyes will disappear, with your team an their story (leaving you will the great capacity of using AP points which can also only be used by Wilfred.) This will influence your adventure, and later, will provide you with an ending that is adapted to the choices that you have made.

Very quickly, the game will impose on you that the use of the plume is primary, and without it you won’t be able to advance. And since you can’t reinforce your experience as you would like (I’ll come back to this), then during certain fights a member of your entourage will have to be designated so that your life is made easier, although you will then have to say goodbye. While the emotion of seeing them leave you is far from extreme, it is a strong feeling still to see one of your team mates give you a great boost, knowing that it will be their last fight. A scene will then follow where he will say his final farewell. This is an excellent passage which, strangely, will make you want to get attached to these characters, with some of them being hard to say goodbye to. The only thing though is that with Valkyrie Profile’s trip to the DS, a few things have been changed. Gone are the 2D surroundings which were rather impressive and which was one of the strong points of the first two games. Gone also are the random fights. On the other hand, say hello to the arrival of a tactical aspect. You will now pass through towns that are summed up on the fixed screen, where you can, besides accessing the story, also buy and sell equipment and listen to stories told by the people. You will have to pay attention to those marked with an exclamation mark, as reading them will release an extra fight which will take place in a new zone, mostly showing itself to be more difficult then the other.
