Transfering music to a phone.

I tried a few times to share a folder over the network on my Win7
machine. I never could manage to share a folder that could be read by
my XP machine. It is OK though as the drive I want to share is on the
XP machine.

I now have a Fusion U8652 phone and I want to copy music from the XP
folder to the phone using my Win7 machine. I use the my Win7 machine
all the time to access the XP machine and I can play music from the
folder just fine using VLC.

The phone instructions say to use Media Player

I added my networked music folder to WMP play list.

I got these error messages:

(This was also a Box cloud storage test)
(Imgur seems like a better way.)

I am guessing that I have to change a network setting to be able to
copy the music to the phone. I have the phone plugged into the USB
slot on the Win7 machine, but no "device installed" message from Win7.

Why do people always choose the complex way? If your phone has a card
slot, just remove the card, copy your music to the card using your
computer and Bob's your uncle, as they say! Personally I use my phone as
a phone and listen to music on my Olympus recorder thus not wasting away
my phone battery juice and getting hi-fi quality sounds listening
through decent in my case top end earphones.

Or am I behind the times?--
