The NFC sticker/Twinlinx MyMax Bluetooth, associated with the Mobile Distillery tools still requires some improvements. While the prototype presented at the show was of course functional, there is still some work to be done on the finalization.
The company has received demonstration boards from interested clients and should start providing functional samples in April 2009, before the mass production planned for the end of 2009 (with the adequate partners).
Demonstration boards of the MyMax sticker
The advantage of this is that it will mean that we don’t have to wait for the whole ecosystem to be put into place, which could still take some time, and that it is easily adapted to existing hardware that the general public know how to use (a Java compatible telephone with Bluetooth is all that is required), and finally having a certain number of control applications implemented with the mobile carriers.
Deploying services in 2009
It is possible that companies will be able to create their NFC specific services so that they can offer their clients MyMax NFC stickers (which can be personalized to the brands colors) allowing them to use these services without having to ask mobile carriers for authorization and without paying user rights.
According to the Twinlinx representatives, companies that may be interested by these opportunities are already quite numerous; with a lot being ready to follow this innovation so that they can take ground in the NFC market quickly by adding value add solutions.
Taking over the free ground
Of course, this solution is only an intermediate step before the mass arrival of MNFC mobiles but these are still a while away, which leave an opportunity and market to be filled by Twinlinx. While they aren’t the only ones to launch this kind of solution, they do have the experience and required know how to call upon.
And while the sticker with the solar panel can theoretically work for ten years, the company is already thinking of disposable models whose cost will be low enough for mass uptake, with the device being replaced when required.
The NFC mobile is still a fair way away, but the NFC/Twinlinx MyMax Bluetooth/Mobile Distillery sticker allows mobile NFC services to start to be implemented, creating a market before the big players in the telecommunications sector step in (the mobile carriers). There is still the mass adoption phase of the NFC services that has to happen, which will only really come around with SIM card services.
