You need to create a Twitter account to be able to access all of the social networks functions. The required information is pretty standard, with your name, user name, a password and your email address being sufficient. Once done, it is recommended that you go to the Settings tab and My Account so as to configure your settings. Those that are publically seen and those that are not - it’s up to you to decide. You will also be able to check the boxes corresponding to your contacts so that you allow the display of your email address, decide whether you want to protect your tweets so that they are only available to your private network (public tweet or private) and add a geographic location from where your tweets were made, either by town or your exact location. It is also in your account where you can disable Twitter, for one reason or another.

In the password settings, you have the possibility of changing your password (6 characters minimum) and in Mobile mode you can enter your mobile telephone number so that you can tweet. In the country selection, enter your country of residence, but if this isn’t currently available then you can use a third party site like TweetSMS, Twe2 or Twittomob. Next go to the Notifications tab and check the following options: Send an email when someone subscribes to my Tweets and Send me an email when I receive a private message.

Your "Twitter" profile is a crucial element, as it is from here where you can send pictures or photos with a maximum size of 700 KB in the JPG, GIF and PNG formats. You username that you select is very important, and you will have to decide between entering a pseudonym or your real name. If you choose the second option, the people that you know will be able to easily find you, but you can say "goodbye to confidentiality"! In the same way, your location, your web site address and short biography (160 characters) will also be unique to you. To finish with the settings, you can also go to the Theme section and select the graphics design which best suits your tastes. The themes can be edited, with it also being possible to add a background picture, and change the colours.
