Ubiquisys has been ranked at the top of the latest 2012 Indoor Small
Cell Vendor Matrix, released by ABI Research.
Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei claimed the second and third spots in the
company’s most recent evaluation of worldwide small cell vendors. This
matrix primarily covers the competitiveness of vendors that provide
access points for residential and enterprise small cells.
“Ubiquisys takes the top spot on the back of its continued commitment to
innovation with technologies like SideStep, CloudBase, and EdgeCloud,
while keeping their commercial contracts ticking through their NEC and
NSN partnerships,” comments Aditya Kaul, practice director, mobile
networks. “Alcatel-Lucent and Huawei have also seen commercial success
over the past year in terms of contract wins, but Ubiquisys’ dedicated
focus on the small cell area allows them to stay a couple of steps ahead
of their larger rivals when it comes to introducing innovative
techniques that should shape the future of the small cell market.”
ip.access has also gained two positions from last year due to
innovations like OysterCatcher and its momentum outside of its main AT&T
small cell deployment in partnership with Cisco. While Airvana has
leapfrogged other vendors in terms of shipments and revenues from small
cells, based on their Sprint 3G AIRAVE contract, its limited reliance on
the CDMA market holds it back.
The vendor matrix is an analytical tool developed by ABI Research to
provide a clear understanding of vendors’ positions in specific markets.
Vendors are assessed on the important parameters of “innovation” and
“implementation” across several criteria unique to each vendor matrix.
Details of the criteria can be found on the product website.
