VMware: virtualisation present on LG Smartphone’s in 2011

VMware, specialist in virtualisation, and LG Electronics have announced a partnership which will allow LG Smartphone’s to access a virtual professional environment in 2011.

Mobile virtualisation remains a largely unknown subject but with the increasing power present in Smartphone’s it is perhaps now time to look at the concept, with personal Smartphone’s possible invading the professional domain.

How can the diverse range of options available to personal users be adapted for use in business, with all of the rigorous security involved? One of the answers is to offer a virtual professional space which is secure on the same mobile.

This is what the virtualization specialist VMware and mobile manufacturer LG Electronics are looking at doing in 2011. The solution will allow you to run a professional mobile environment on a Smartphone already used for personal use, with a solid barrier set between both systems.

The same handset could therefore be used for both private and professional uses, without mixing genres and guaranteeing the security of sensitive business data thanks to the virtual mobile solution.

"The enterprise and SMB markets are key areas of focus for LG," said Ki S. Kim, Vice President of Global Enterprise Solutions at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "Our partnership with VMware is part of LG's global strategy to develop smart mobile devices for businesses. Enterprise IT organizations are looking for a way to embrace the growing trend of employee-owned mobile devices at work, while still maintaining control over their corporate data."


Employees want their own handsets
For VMware, this is a new business demand which is emerging. With employees becoming more mobile, the use of advanced mobile computing solutions is required for users to be able to stay in touch.

Rather than having an almost obligatory delay in adapting to the new mobile solutions which are required by business, why not allow the user to utilize their own mobile devices on which they already feel at ease, instead integrating an environment which will allow them to work.

From LG’s side, this is also a way of getting their foot into the enterprise market without having to necessarily develop a range of professional mobile products which will no doubt draws fewer clients.

General public Smartphone’s already have the capacity required to meet business needs. The virtualization brought by VMware will allow users to add a secure environment to their existing phone, making all handsets compatible with the businesses requirements.
