I have a HP Pavillion dv2000. it was very slow & always froze up so
stopped using it. Well on 2/14, i turned it on to scan my iPod. the las
time i had it on before that was ages ago, sometime in '10. So ther
were about 40 updates in Windows Update. They all looked like securit
updates & vista updates so i checked them all & let them do their thing
But after the computer restarted itself, i got a message.

Windows Error Recovery.
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might b
the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured uncorrectly
Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power wa
interrupted during startup, choose Start Windows Normally. (Use th
arrow keys to highlight your choice.)

Option 1: Launch Startup Repair (recommended)
Option 2: Start windows normally

-Option 1 takes me to the Startup Repair which tells me 'Startup repai
cannot repair this computer automatically.' then they ask to send th
data then the computer just restarts & does the same thing over & ove
again. Option 2 takes me to "Starting Windows" then "Windows is loadin
files..." then restarts the computer, taking me back to the erro
screen.

i tried, Last Known Good Configuration' (restarts), chkdsk (restarts)
& System Restore in safe mode. It finished restoring but i still canno
start windows normally. i went into safe mode & a popup said 'th
computer has restored to ...'. The weird thing is in system restor
there are only two restore points, which are on 2/14, the same day o
the windows updates. none before then. really weird. i saw somewher
that missing restore points are signs of a virus. =| i even tried goin
in to setup utility & tried to run a hard drive test but it said 'tes
status #1- 07 Fail' after about 30 seconds. then as i was exiting i wen
into boot order & the first is 'ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive' the second i
'Notebook Hard Drive'.

What is the first one? does that have anything to do with why its no
booting windows?

Also as i was pressing ESC to go to Boot Menu it says
System RAM
Extended RAM Passed
Cache SRAM Passed
System BIOS *Shadowed*
Video BIOS *Shadowed*
Fixed Disk 0: [...]
Mouse Initialized

shadowed huh? =/
anyway, any help would be appreciated. PLEASE
