XP install starting from a USB stick

Hi, I've just bought a new i5 laptop (HP DV6-6c77sa) with W7.

I was hoping my existing XP installation on a 320 gig SATA HDD (from a dual
core computer ) would simply plug in and after a few reboots, settle down -
but no such luck !. (boots then BSOD)

Its so long since I've had to do this sort of thing - I've forgotten the
steps - then when I read up on it - I seem to be going round in circles.

1. Is there a way to get my existing XP installation to boot ?. -or-

2. I've been reading about loading XP - starting from a USB memory stick -
but got lost - can anyone point me towards an easy method ?.

go to your COS site up,

and reset the Boot from #1. CD/DVD #2. HDD #3. USB to
#1.USB #2.HDD #3.CD/DVD
