XP Squirrely Pro

| I have two laptops with XP Pro.
| All service packs and security updates and mfr's drivers installed.
| 4G RAM.

| Original install of all apps ran for years then started acting up.

| Both have a recent format / reinstall.
| Both are again squirrely.
| Running Avast and other MS malicious etc with firewall on.
| Run CCleaner on them but that did not help.

| What's squirreley you ask?
| Internet explorer does strange things. complains all the time.
| Other browsers, chrome, safari, firefox work better on the same sites.
| What version IE, well 6 with the reinstall and up to now 8 and all IE
| act squirrley.
| Other apps also have strange behaviours that are intermittent.
| I.e. I cannot reproduce them. consistently.

| So what can I run to figure out what is going on?
| Or should I just recycle them and start over.
