Make pages easier to read thanks to the zoom

October 01st, 2008 - 05:15 am ET by B. C.

There are some web sites that are plain difficult to read. This can be due to your eye sight, with the characters appearing to be too small, or the poor choice of a font size in the original coding. You should therefore use the zoom function that is integrated into your internet browser.

Let’s take for example Firefox under Windows. Three possibilities can be used:

  • The mouse: Hold down the CTRL key and turn the wheel up or down to reduce or increase the size.
  • The keyboard: Hold down the CTRL key and use the + or – keys to reduce or increase the size, with the CTRL and 0 keys returning the view to normal
  • Go to the “View” menu and select “Zoom”

The tip in pictures:

Firefox zoom normal
The page at original size

Firefox zoom arri  Firefox zoom avant
The page after zooming backwards and forwards

This is a very useful function that can be used in other browsers like Internet Explorer, Opera and Safari. The shortcut keys and menus may vary between each of them, but they are never difficult to find.
